Recap of Yesterday

Well yesterday's plan was to work with Julie and then to run dependent on how I felt.  I didn't run. :(  When I got done with the session with Julie I felt awesome!  My legs were loosened up, I felt like I could hit the ground running.  However it was already 7:45 and I had to be home (10 - 15 min drive) by 8.  Good thing I DID leave too because my husband (over the road truck driver) was due home last night and arrived at the terminal to a flat tire on his pick up truck, so the kids and I had to drive to Blaine and pick him up.

However, I noticed the longer I sat in the truck the more sore my body was getting and by the time I got home I was groaning as I slid out of my Expedition.  The session with Julie was great.  She taught me a few things about how our muscles and joints work, especially in relationship to an injured portion of our body.  We talked about options for my ankle and it solidified the thought that I need to see a chiropractor to see exactly where the pain is coming from (bone vs scar tissue from improper healing).  We started with an assessment of the "issue", which is the fact that when I squat my knees pull in toward each other indicating a muscle imbalance.  After that I was on the treadmill for a quick 10 minute warm up.  As Julie and I were chatting back and forth I was looking at the 3.5 that was the warm up speed on the treadmill.  Was I sweating? No.  Was I out of breath? No.  I looked at Julie and said "Two years ago when I first met you and was working with "E", I had to work my way up to a 3.0 and now 3.5 is my warm up?"  It was an interesting moment in time right there.

So on with the workout.....after the treadmill Julie had me do some foam rolling to break up any knots in my muscles.  She explained it very nicely....let's say you have a necklace that has knots all around it, it's shorter and unable to stretch.  If you remove the knots, the necklace can lengthen....same with your muscles.  You have to work the knots out before you can stretch and lengthen the muscles and unstretched muscles, as we all know, are more prone to injury.  After the foam roller.....lateral walking with the band on my ankles.  Apparently I need the blue band which is the tightest because the green band was not giving me enough butt burn....but oh boy...the blue one definitely did!  After that I moved the band above my knees and did some wall squats with a ball and some ball bridges.  I DID break a sweat.  Even though these were not intense movements, they still warmed me up quite a bit.

Julie and I talked a lot about the changes I've made from when I met her two years ago and how if it weren't for a woman that had a falling out with both of us at separate times we would never have known each other and that would have been a tragedy.  If I would not have been introduced to Julie and boot camp there are a TON of fabulous girls, some of which are ranked among my best friends and supporters, that I would never have known and frankly that makes me a little sad.  I look at "E" as an angel of sorts.  She swooped in to my life connected me with someone that I so desperately needed (Julie) and she swooped out of my life.  My connection with Julie has led to more personal changes and connections with women that I don't know how I would EVER do without, than I could ever have imagined.  So even though I do not talk to "E" anymore and don't care if I ever do again, I would really like to thank her for making such a fantastic change in my life :)

So my "plan" for the coming weeks has changed once again.  Julie has added in some of the exercises and stretching that we did in our session :)  I can not wait to be a stronger, healthier me.  One day, one hour, one minute, one second, one single moment at a time.  This is the first moment of the rest of my life.....let's make it good!
