Ok folks, I've been working this C25K app and while I think it's great for someone starting out....I'm just NOT and I have Go Commando coming up in a little over a month. I feel like running on flat ground for someone with running experience is boring and quite honestly borderline useless, so I've been attacking this hill in town here. It's HUGE! I made it a block up the first time, the second time I tried I made it two blocks up, but then the side walk ends and I'm literally running on the side of the ROAD, but this morning and I looked at that hill and thought "You're mine!" Also if anyone knows anything about C25K you know that it's intervals. This morning it started out with 90 seconds walking and then 90 seconds running and then the next rep was 3 minutes walking and 3 minutes running.and then back to 90/90 and so on....so even up the hill I was alternating running and walking, so NO, I didn't run the entire thing, but DAMNIT I ran a good portion of it. So this is the plan everyday until I can run the ENTIRE hill! I start out on flat ground in town around a few blocks and then up the hill we go. The only reason I do that is because my muscles NEED more of a warm up before that bugger than if I were just continuing to run on flat ground. So I get to the top and I turn around and I think "HOLY SHIT! THAT'S A BIG HILL!" As you're running you don't realize HOW high you are going (or I didn't anyway). You just have to focus on one foot in front of the other and then you turn around to head back and you can feel the breeze and appreciate the view and the fact that you just accomplished something you never have before.
A girlfriend of mine, in fact, one of my best girlfriends and former running buddy said "Wow, that's intense" and I reminded her quickly that she's probably NEVER seen me do anything that wasn't intense. It's just how I operate and always have. Today was no exception. So the next couple days I'll be doing the same times as I did today. And then, because C25K is only scheduled for 3 days a week, I fully plan on getting a jump on Week 4 by the end of this week which has times like:
Jog - 3 mins
Walk - 2.5 mins
Jog - 3 mins
Walk - 90 seconds
Jog - 5 mins
Eventually I'll be running the entire hill and will jump around like Rocky when I get to the top....for today....I OWNED that hill. It was all mine!
I will ALSO OWN Go Commando! I REFUSE to struggle like last year!
